Saturday Morning Update #71

Saturday Morning Update is a weekly series where I talk about my adventures in geek life from the previous week. Read on to find out a little bit more about what I did this week, including what I’ve been watching, reading, and playing.

Today we are going to a taped screening of Puffs, a Harry Potter inspired off-broadway musical. I have absolutely no idea what to expect. Then we gotta go adult and stuff for the rest of the weekend because we might be moving soon!

We saw an early screening of Deadpool 2 the other night. Chances of getting out a full review are slim so here it goes: This movie is awesome. It is bigger and better than the last movie in every way. There is more action and violence, more weird and bizarre humor, and way more meta fouth-wall jokes than ever. That is my only gripe with the movie, that it can get annoying sometimes. The first one had a single perfectly timed MCU joke, but here there were so many I lost count. And honestly they weren't even the best jokes - one is just "Gimme a bow and call me Hawkeye" - but they got the biggest laughs for some reason. There is also no extra scene way at the end of the credits, but there is a mid-credit scene and it's probably the best one ever. Deadpool 2 comes out on May 18. Go see it.

Last week I announced that I was reeling back on book reviews in favor of focusing on comics. I'd seen other geek bloggers who slowly changed over the years from being comics fans and gamers into "bookish" people who like candles and such. I didn't want to become that. But then a copy of Geekerella appeared on my doorstep from Quirk Books! Forget everything I said I need to read a million more books like this one. It's a romantic YA story that adapts Cinderella into the world of geek culture while also telling the story of a secondary protagonist who is an actor in a geeky movie. There's a million references to movies and TV shows and comics and anime and would you believe that I read it for the romance? It came out last year but the paperback comes out this week. Order your copy here.

Nothing, but there are a few things I need to get around to buying.

What have you been up to this week? What are you doing next week? Let me know in the comments below!
