February Goals

Month 1 of 2018 is over and it’s time to look forward to February. I spent most of January sick and wasted two PTO days coughing and sneezing. At least I had a lot of time to read. I’ll have a “What I Read in January” video up soon, but in the meantime check out my goals for February 2018

I’ve been off to a rocky start in regards to keeping up with my monthly goals. Maybe I started off too big or chose the wrong month for certain tasks.

1. Stick to a schedule of daily and weekly tasks. I think the biggest problem with this was that I had a bunch of other general reminders in Google Keep and they would all go off at once, so I ignored them all together. A lot of my daily and weekly tasks are kind of second nature, like checking Twitter and brainstorming blog post ideas. I definitely had the blog on my mind every day, and that’s what matters.

2. Network with more bloggers. I honestly don’t even know what this means sometimes. I found some more and have been following and interacting with them, but they don’t seem to be interacting back. The recent #PowerForceLives movement has spurred up some of this, but I want to do more to build a stronger community.

3. Go somewhere new. I did this! I’d almost given up because it was so cold I didn’t even want to go somewhere old let alone somewhere new. But I finally cracked down and said, “We’re going!” and then we did. We headed off to Bloomfield with the plan to visit 2 independent bookstores and a used game/toy store. After some poor planning on my part, we spent way too long in the first bookstore and by the time we got out everything else was closed. So I had to plan another trip before I can put a whole article together. But after a month of being cooped up, it was nice to just get out of the house.

Now, onto goals for February.

  1. Get back on YouTube. I got really disinterested in YouTube last year. It’s a lot of work to film and edit videos to only get like 4 views because of the way the algorithms are set up. And then they announced the change to their partnership program that basically ensures it’s virtually pointless to start a channel if you’re not already big and popular. But then #PowerForceLives happened and not only am I inspired to make more videos, I am motivated to get better at it.
  2. Update blog sidebar. The sidebar has been more or less the same for the past year, so I want to work on getting it revamped. I have some awesome ideas in store, just need to crack down and get them done.
  3. Go on a geeky date. Valentine’s Day is coming up, our first as a married couple, so I want to take Katrina somewhere special. But fancy restaurants are expensive and overdone and we’re a bunch of nerds, so we want to try something a bit more fun.
  4. Stay positive! If it isn’t clear yet, #PowerForceLives will be defining me for the next month and probably beyond that. I loved all the positivity and don’t want that to fade away after a weekend, so I am going to aim to stay positive. This means I have to do one thing that will be hardest for me: I have to stop going on Reddit.
I hope everyone has a good February! Let me know what you’re up to this month in the comments down below. And remember, #PowerForceLives!
